Below is a listing of some of the community events and charities we are proud to be a part of.

Commitment to community

The Strathcona Hotel is always trying to be a responsible and community partner by having a positive impact and supporting community goals, both within and outside the hotel.

Breast Cancer
The Downtown Toronto Hotel Group and the Strathcona Hotel are committed to helping create a future without breast cancer. Last year our teams use “Pink Power” to raise money and awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

Hospital for sick kids
This program has been designed for patients and their families who require accommodations while visiting the hospital for sick children.

Mining for Heart of Gold
Yearly, the Strathcona Hotel Downtown Toronto hosts the Mining for Heart of Gold fundraising event, which invites Canada's most influential mining and junior resource stakeholders to play a leadership role in celebrating and supporting an outstanding charity. Last year a portion of our beverage sales from The Pub were donated in support of the women and families of the Jean Tweed Centre.

Miracle Golf Drive
The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive for Kids has a single mission - to be golf's premiere fund raising initiative to support children's health care. The Strathcona Hotel Downtown Toronto donates all the proceeds from Mike Weir wine in The Pub to this initiative.

Food Bank
Once a year, around Christmas time, the Strathcona Hotel collects non-perishable food items in order to donate them to a local food bank.

Homeless Linen Donation
Regularly, our recycled linen such as duvets, sheets and pillowcases, are donated to a local homeless shelter.

Supporting Sustainability

In our property:

• Replace light bulbs to energy efficient CFL bulbs
• Timers in public washrooms
• Recycling programs
• Planet Project (a linen and towel reuse program)

Members of Green Key (3 keys) and Green Leafs (3 leafs).

The Green Key Eco-Rating Program is a graduated rating system designed to recognize hotels, motels and resorts that are committed to improving their environmental and fiscal performance.

Based on the results of a comprehensive environmental audit, hoteliers are awarded a 1-5 Green Key rating and given guidance on how to "unlock" opportunities to reduce operating costs and environmental impacts through reduced utility consumption, employee training, and supply chain management.

The Hotel Association of Canada's Green Leaf Eco-Rating program is a graduated rating system designed to identify hotels committed to improving their bottom line and environmental performance.

Our property has obtained 3 green keys as well as 3 green leafs and we are constantly trying to improve our environmental performances.

Spring Promotion:

• Decoration and educational posters displayed at front desk reflecting best green practices.
• Weekly eco-friendly tips for guests & staff also featured on our Facebook & twitter pages.
• Engaging hotel guests to contribute to planting trees in Amazon Rainforest.
• Guilt free upgrade at discounted price to Executive level room if guest chooses to participate in 'Project Planet' program (simply reuse linen and towels).
• Social Media contest for "silly green" posts by our fans.
